In a cultural landscape filled with endless pundits and talking heads,\u00a0Fran Lebowitz stands out as one of our most insightful social commentators. Her essays and interviews offer her acerbic views on current events and the media\u2014as well as pet peeves,\u00a0including tourists, baggage-claim areas, after-shave lotion, adults who roller skate, children who speak French, or anyone who is unduly tan.\u00a0<\/span>The New York Times<\/span><\/i>\u00a0Book Review calls Lebowitz an \u201cimportant humorist in the classic tradition.\u201d Purveyor of urban cool, Lebowitz is a cultural satirist whom many call the heir to Dorothy Parker.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

By turns ironic, facetious, deadpan, sarcastic, wry, wisecracking, and waggish, Lebowitz\u2019s prose is wickedly entertaining. Her two books are collected in the\u00a0<\/span>Fran Lebowitz Reader<\/span><\/i>, with a new preface by the author. Lebowitz is also the author of the children\u2019s book\u00a0<\/span>Mr. Chas and Lisa Sue Meet the Pandas<\/span><\/i>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2010,\u00a0Martin Scorsese directed a documentary about Lebowitz for HBO titled\u00a0<\/span>Public Speaking<\/span><\/i>. A new limited documentary series\u00a0<\/span>Pretend It\u2019s a\u00a0City<\/span><\/i>, also directed by Martin Scorsese, premiered\u00a0on Netflix January\u00a08,\u00a02021\u00a0and is nominated for an Emmy award.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fran Lebowitz will be interviewed on stage for 30 minutes by the evening\u2019s host, Jennifer McCabe, Director and Chief Curator of Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art.
